I discovered my passion for journalism when I was a sophomore in high school, and have never looked back since. I was a writer for my high school newspaper the South Lakes Sentinel for one year, and then served as the opinion editor for the next for the next two years.

Upon coming to Mary Washington, I knew from day one that I wanted to be actively involved with the Blue & Gray Press. The idea of putting a paper out every week, instead of just a handful of times throughout the year like we did in high school, really excited me. After serving as a writer in the fall and then a senior writer in spring of my freshman year, I was given the opportunity to run for a news editor position. Needless to say, I jumped on the opportunity and served in that role for the past two years. As a news editor I helped come up with article ideas, troubleshooted issues with writers when they came across problems during the interview and writing processes, edited articles, laid them out in InDesign, and helped with distribution. While I loved my time as a news editor, I am excited that next year I will be serving as on online editor and will actively be working to help expand the digital presence of the Blue & Gray Press.

Given how much the Blue & Gray Press means to me, and all the time and energy I have put into my work with the paper, this website would not have been complete without me finding a way to incorporate my love for journalism into it. For the collage featured on this page, I went to the Blue & Gray Press website and took screenshots of the title & featured image of every article that I have written or co-authored. Then I used photoshop to compile them into the final image that’s pictured above.
